Second grade music students begin to use music books in the classroom. Students learn how to follow the music and verses (words) in a song as they sing. Expanding on what they have learned in first grade, students will learn more notes as well as other elements of music. They will compose and perform more complex rhythms. Students also write in a weekly music journal about various topics pertaining to the subject. This is a way to help them think about and express their ideas about different music topics. It also supports the school district's goal of incorporating and improving writing in all areas.
