Robotics Recap

Saturday the 11th Hillsboro's four high school Robotics teams traveled to Columbus for their 4th robotics competition of the year. The team has had a good season thus far and the robots were in good shape so the teams were optimistic.

We were reminded on Saturday of the roll played by lady luck. Three of the four teams experienced a robot failure of one type or another during their matches. Robots failed to function, two robots fell over during the tournament, one fell twice! It wasn't pretty, but good teams make their own luck and the teams fought on.

The results: With 37 teams competing, after the qualifications matches, Alpha Squad was seeded 10th, Charlie Squad 12th, Bravo Squad 21st, and Bruh Momentum 28th. The top 3 seeded teams qualified for the eliminations round and two teams (Alpha and Bravo Squads) made it into the semi-finals. Bravo Squad fought their way into the final round where they were defeated by the alliance of Mt Vernon and Ankeney. Thus far this year a Hillsboro team has made it into the final match in every event. That's quite an accomplishment.

We didn't win the tournament but we didn't walk away empty handed. Bravo Squad (make up of Abby K, Owen R, and Jake S) won the Design Award, the second most prestigious award in VEX Robotics. This is the team's second state qualifying award.

On February 22nd Hillsboro will compete in its last regular season event at Southern State's Patriot Center. The event, hosted by McClain and Hillsboro will feature some of the region's best teams. The qualifying matches will begin at 9 AM.
