The HHS mission is to create a collaborative learning environment where success is the only option. We realize that this is only possible through the active participation of all stakeholders in the educational process.

HHS, home to over 800 students and 75 certified and classified staff members, is the largest school in Highland County; we offer a wide variety of curricular and extra-curricular activities that challenge our students in multiple ways.

Our broad and comprehensive curriculum makes it possible for HHS students to prepare for the workplace or post-secondary study in many ways. We offer eight Advanced Placement courses (Calculus, Government, U.S. History, World History, Biology, Economics, Literature and Language. We offer four on-site dual credit courses including: College Algebra, College Trigonometry, Chemistry, and Physics.  We also have a comprehensive Agricultural Education program that provides a solid foundation for a career in the agriculture industry. The Industrial Technology department offers programs in metal and wood fabrication.   Our newest program is Project Lead the Way. PLTW is a pre-engineering program that encompasses a highly concentrated math and science curriculum designed to prepare students for the rigors and demands of higher education. Students can also benefit from Agricultural Education and PLTW by earning credit towards courses at SSCC if they decide to further their education after high school. Computer Programing and Technology is also a highlight, as our programs prepare students for all levels of computer literacy. Many of our students participate in summer camps and have placed at the top in competitions. When it comes to Fine Arts we have one of the best band and choral programs in the state. The choir has received recognition and performed several times at the OMEA Conference. The visual arts program is also very successful with many students often receiving recognition for their talent.

The High School offers several activities/organizations for students to be involved in including, NHS, Student Council, FFA and 16 varsity athletics. Athletics include tennis, soccer, cross country, track/field, football, baseball, volleyball, wrestling, golf, softball, basketball, swimming and bowling. The athletic complex includes one of the best 8 lane track and field facilities at the high school level in the state.  The complex is also utilized for boys and girls soccer competition.

Hillsboro FFA Job Interview

On November 3rd Job Interview subdistricts were held at McClain High School. This Career Development Event prepares FFA students for real-life experiences such as preparing a cover letter, resumÄ—, and participating in an interview. The Hillsboro FFA Students that moved on the districts were Bryanna  Buerkle, Morgan Kelly, and Jaiden Hughes. Districts were later held at Hillsboro where Hillsboro FFA members had advanced.

On November 22nd, 2016, several members of the Hillsboro FFA Chapter traveled to Peebles High School to compete in the sub-district parliamentary procedure contest.

Charles Dillon to compete in Masonry Skills USA Competition

Charles Dillon, a sophomore attending Laurel Oaks, has been selected to compete in a Masonry Skills USA Competition in Batavia on December 8, 2016. Typically this event is reserved for juniors and seniors, however, he was selected to represent Laurel Oaks at the next level.  Congratulations and good luck Charles!

Red Ribbon Week Essay Contest Winners

Pictured are the winners of the Red Ribbon Week Essay contest.  Nathaniel Trent, grade 12, was the high school winner and Sara Newsome, grade 7, was the middle school winner.  They each received a $100 check from the ADAMH board. Also, Sarah was the county wide winner and will receive a $500 scholarship. 


National Honor Society Induction Ceremony Held

Congratulations to the nine individuals inducted into the National Honor Society on Tuesday, November 22. The leadership, community service and academic achievements displayed by these students are exceptional. A special thank you to Alex Butler for his inspiring words to the members and inductees. Inductees include Ashleigh Baucom, Abby Myers, Izzy Bourne, Sarah Workman, Breanne Fender, Emily Young, Britton Haines, Owen Young, and Riley Moberly.


Hillsboro High School Physics Students Build Catapults

The high school physics class hosted their annual catapult competition. Students designed and built the contraptions to focus on projectile motion and force. The winning team, whose catapult launched a croquet ball the farthest, included Hope Tira, Taylor Remsing, and Taylor Johnson. Hillsboro alumni Ryan Hagan and Meredith Ogelsby, who were part of the winning team last year, brought their catapult back to demonstrate for the students as well.
