In class, students were introduced to two types of Asian Art; Japanese fish printing and Chinese bamboo brush paintings. To create the Asian Art experience students will combine the two arts together to create one final project.
In Japan, fisherman would create a print of their catch to show its actual size. We are using very realistic rubber fish. Students brush on a layer of ink, lay their paper on top of the fish, and press all around the fish to ensure a good print.
For the Chinese painting, we are using bamboo brushes to create either bamboo stalks with leaves or branches with flowers such as plum blossoms. Marks were created by holding the brush in different positions and applying different amounts of pressure to each brush stroke.
