Camp Joy Information for 5th Grade Students

Fifth grade students attending Camp Joy received a packing list last week. Hillsboro HS International Thespian Society #5928 Induction Ceremony

The Hillsboro HS International Thespian Society #5928 will hold an induction ceremony on Friday, May 5 at 5:00 PM on the HHS stage. Students that excel in theatre will be inducted into this international honor society. There will be a showcase and awards given.   


Hillsboro Drama I & II Classes Present A Night of One Acts

The HHS Drama I & II classes present A Night of One Acts on Tuesday, May 9 at 4:30 PM. Drama I students will present "Good Interupted" written and directed by Emily Kessinger. Drama II students will present "The Quota" written and directed by Michael Ferguson. Admission is free.


Hillsboro FFA Chapter Holds Greenhouse Sale

The Hillsboro High School FFA Chapter will be hosting our annual flower sale April 18 through May 15. Our greenhouse consists of hanging pots, deck planters, bedding plants, and many other seed planted and plugged flowers. Sales will be held Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. located at 550 US-62, Hillsboro, OH 45133. Sports Physicals Being Offered by Highland District Hospital on May 13

The Center for Rehabilitation & Sports Medicine of Highland District Hospital will be offering a free sports physical clinic on Saturday, May 13 from 8 AM - 12 PM at Highland District Hospital. The physicals will be good for the 2017-18 school year and are for students entering grades 7-12. Sports physicals are required by the OHSAA in order to participate in a middle school and/or high school sport.


12th Annual Athletic Booster Gala

The Hillsboro Athletic Booster Club will be hosting their annual gala on May 13 at Hillsboro High School. The evening will consist of an appetizer hour with the opportunity to tour the Barnhouse Center, a catered dinner, interactive games, a large split-the-pot, a silent auction, and of course, the chance to win the grand prize of $10,000! Tickets are still available and are $100 each. Each ticket holder wins a prize. There are only 300 tickets sold for the drawing. This fundraiser is important for Hillsboro City Schools as the proceeds go toward improving athletic facilities and complexes for Hillsboro student athletes. If you have questions and/or would like to purchase a ticket, please contact the athletic department at 393-9325.

Hillsboro High School International Thespian Society members and Drama I students went on a field trip to see Matilda the Muscial at the Aronoff Center in Cincinnati, Ohio on April 13.

NJHS Sponsors Food Drive at Hillsboro Middle School

The Hillsboro National Junior Honor Society held a food drive at the middle school to benefit the Hillsboro Homeless Shelter. The winning homerooms from each grade were treated to ice cream. A total of 365 plus items were delivered to the shelter. Winning homerooms were 8th grade-Mrs. Walker, 7th grade Mrs. Grow, Mrs. Davis, and Mrs. Snively, and 6th grade Mrs. Luman.

Hillsboro FFA Chapter Holds Officer Elections

The Hillsboro FFA Chapter held officer elections for the 2017-2018 school year on March 23, 2017. The election process consists of an application, popular vote, interview, and a test. During the interview this year, five judges selected the candidates. The new officer team is as follows: Breanne Fender, President; Lana Grover, Vice President; Larkyn Parry, VP of Student Development; Brittany Rhoads, VP of Chapter Development; Grant Crum, VP of Community Development; Kennedi Claycomb,Treasurer; Pyper Ross, Reporter; Kirsten Harp, Secretary; Jordan Williamson, Advisor; and Taylor Chaney, Sentinel.

The annual Ernie Blankenship telethon was held on March 30, 2017 at US Bank in Hillsboro. The annual fundraiser is held every year to raise money for the Highland County Society for Children and Adults.

Hillsboro FFA Hosts a Staff Lunch

On February 24 the Hillsboro FFA Chapter held a teacher appreciation lunch. Each year on the Friday of National FFA week a breakfast or lunch is prepared by students for the Hillsboro High School staff. This year, teachers were served pork, macaroni, green beans, a salad bar, rolls, and cookies. The FFA members held committee meetings for the teacher appreciation lunch and it was a success. Thank you to all who participated and attended the teacher lunch.

Fifth Grade Students Participate in March Mathness

7th-8th Grade Cheerleading Tryouts

Due to several scheduling conflicts, the 7th/8th grade cheer tryouts have been rescheduled to May from the original dates in March. Students who will be in the 7th or 8th grade for the 2017-18 school year are invited to tryout for cheerleading. The mandatory clinics will be held from May 22-24 from 4-6 PM in the HS Gym. The tryout date is May 25 at 4 PM.

About the District:

With an enrollment of nearly 2,700 students, Hillsboro City School District is the largest of the five public schools systems in rural Highland County. The district boundaries encompass the city of Hillsboro (county seat of Highland County) as well as much of the surrounding rural area in central Highland County.

Our Educational Program:

 Hillsboro City Schools' educational programs are focused on providing multiple avenues,  academic experiences, and academic supports to help EVERY child make his/her way to success in life. Our Curriculum is carefully planned to align with the State of Ohio Content Standards and Common Core Standards. At all grade levels, we take extreme care to asses each student's academic progress and provide "Tiers of Intervention" for students who are not meeting the academic standards.  We provide academic challenges for students that are above the standard.

In addition to the traditional high school curricula, Hillsboro High School offers extensive curricular options in Advanced Placement Courses, Post-Secondary Courses, and outstanding options in Vocational Agriculture and Fine Arts.

Hillsboro, Ohio is located in the gently rolling hills of scenic Highland County, Ohio at the junction of US Highway 50 and US Highway 62.
 
With a population of  6,368 (according to the US Census Bureau, 2000), the quiet town  can be reached by travelling East from Cincinnati along US Route 50 or by travelling South-West from Columbus on US Route 62.

According to the US Census Bureau report for the 2000 Census*  the population of Hillsboro is 45.3% male and 54.7% female. The population's racial mixture is 91.8% White, 6.9% black, 1.3% Asian, and 0.7% American Indian. 41% of the 25 year and older population have achieved a high school diploma and 31.9% have education beyond high school 4.7% with Bachelor's Degrees and 6.2% with professional or graduate degrees. The mean household income is $25,998.(*http://censtats.census.gov/data/OH/1603935560.pdf)

The Hillsboro City School District includes the City of Hillsboro as well as a large portion of the surrounding rural Highland County area.
