HHS Wiffle Ball Tournament Announced

The 2nd Annual HHS Wiffle Ball Tournament will be hosted on Saturday, June 24 at Liberty Park in Hillsboro. Teams consist of 4-6 people and there are different age divisons. The cost for ages 7-13 is $50 per team and the cost for ages 14 and up is $100 per team. Hillsboro Elementary Students Participate in Poster Contest

The following Hillsboro Elementary students received 1st, 2nd and 3rd place awards in a poster contest sponsored by the Hillsboro Post Office.  For several years now, students have created posters centered around the donation of canned food items to the annual Letter Carriers' Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.  This year marks the 25th anniversary of the food drive, which took place on Saturday, May 13.

Sam Barnhouse Center Dedication Ceremony

On Monday, May 8, several members of the community joined the Barnhouse family in a dedication ceremony of the Sam Barnhouse Center. The center features a weight and strength training room, a wrestling room, and locker rooms and changing rooms. Students in grades 7-12 are currently using the facility and are encouraged to utilize the amenities.

Hillsboro High School senior, Cadence Myers, signed her letter of intent to attend and play soccer for Notre Dame College in South Euclid, Ohio. Notre Dame College is an NCAA Division II school that competes in the Mountain East Conference.

NJHS Sponsors Food Drive at Hillsboro Middle School

The Hillsboro National Junior Honor Society held a food drive at the middle school to benefit the Hillsboro Homeless Shelter. The winning homerooms from each grade were treated to ice cream. A total of 365 plus items were delivered to the shelter. Winning homerooms were 8th grade-Mrs. Walker, 7th grade Mrs. Grow, Mrs. Davis, and Mrs. Snively, and 6th grade Mrs. Luman.

Hillsboro FFA Chapter Holds Officer Elections

The Hillsboro FFA Chapter held officer elections for the 2017-2018 school year on March 23, 2017. The election process consists of an application, popular vote, interview, and a test. During the interview this year, five judges selected the candidates. The new officer team is as follows: Breanne Fender, President; Lana Grover, Vice President; Larkyn Parry, VP of Student Development; Brittany Rhoads, VP of Chapter Development; Grant Crum, VP of Community Development; Kennedi Claycomb,Treasurer; Pyper Ross, Reporter; Kirsten Harp, Secretary; Jordan Williamson, Advisor; and Taylor Chaney, Sentinel.

7th-8th Grade Cheerleading Tryouts

Due to several scheduling conflicts, the 7th/8th grade cheer tryouts have been rescheduled to May from the original dates in March. Students who will be in the 7th or 8th grade for the 2017-18 school year are invited to tryout for cheerleading. The mandatory clinics will be held from May 22-24 from 4-6 PM in the HS Gym. The tryout date is May 25 at 4 PM.

About the District:

With an enrollment of nearly 2,700 students, Hillsboro City School District is the largest of the five public schools systems in rural Highland County. The district boundaries encompass the city of Hillsboro (county seat of Highland County) as well as much of the surrounding rural area in central Highland County.

Hillsboro, Ohio is located in the gently rolling hills of scenic Highland County, Ohio at the junction of US Highway 50 and US Highway 62.
 
With a population of  6,368 (according to the US Census Bureau, 2000), the quiet town  can be reached by travelling East from Cincinnati along US Route 50 or by travelling South-West from Columbus on US Route 62.

According to the US Census Bureau report for the 2000 Census*  the population of Hillsboro is 45.3% male and 54.7% female. The population's racial mixture is 91.8% White, 6.9% black, 1.3% Asian, and 0.7% American Indian. 41% of the 25 year and older population have achieved a high school diploma and 31.9% have education beyond high school 4.7% with Bachelor's Degrees and 6.2% with professional or graduate degrees. The mean household income is $25,998.(*http://censtats.census.gov/data/OH/1603935560.pdf)

The Hillsboro City School District includes the City of Hillsboro as well as a large portion of the surrounding rural Highland County area.
