INDIAN CARDS ARE ON SALE NOW!!
The 8th Grade class is currently selling Indian Cards to help pay for their Washington D.C. trip in the spring.  The cost of the card is $10.00. You may purchase Indian Cards through a student who is currently in 8th grade or at the Middle School Office.

Perfect Attendance

Mrs. Hoop is honoring Shaylin Neal. Shaylin had perfect attendance for the 2014-15 school year. Her name has been added to the plaque which is hanging in the Middle school. Congratulations Shaylin!

PSAT at HHS on Oct. 14

Hillsboro high school will be giving the PSAT on October 14th.  10th and 11th grade students can register for the PSAT now - August 28th. Students should bring $15 at the time of sign up. Some fee waivers are available. See Mrs. Juillerate in the high school office to register.


HHS Counselors to Host College Visits
The guidance department will be hosting college visits. The dates are:
September 25 - Central State University
October 16 - Shawnee State University
April 1 - University of Rio Grande
Visits are open to all juniors/seniors with a 2.2 GPA and are currently in good academic standing.  Sign-ups will be in the guidance department.

ACT Prep Class Approaching

On Saturday, August 29th OUC is offering a non-credit ACT prep class on campus. This is a perfect opportunity for your students to prepare for the test this coming fall/spring. Change to Wednesday Schedule

The HCS Board of Education has approved a change to Wednesday schedule. Schools will now be on a one-hour early release schedule every Wednesday for Teacher-Based-Team meetings.

Hillsboro Middle School Eighth Grade Visits Washington D.C.
 
Eighth Grade Students from Hillsboro Middle School toured Washington DC and Gettysburg PA from April 8-10, 2015. Highlights from the trip included a tour of the US Capitol, a performance at Ford's Theater, a wreath ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery, and a tour at Gettysburg. Also, students visited The Korean Memorial, The Vietnam Memorial, The FDR Memorial, The WWII Memorial, The Lincoln Memorial, The Martin Luther King Memorial, The Smithsonian of Air and Space, and other sites and attractions.

National Honor Society Induction Held

Hillsboro Middle School National Junior Honor Society held  induction on Thursday February 12, 2015. Forty-three 7th and 8th graders joined the twenty-nine 8th grade members that were inducted last year. This year Ms. Pam Limes was our featured speaker.

About the District:

With an enrollment of nearly 2,700 students, Hillsboro City School District is the largest of the five public schools systems in rural Highland County. The district boundaries encompass the city of Hillsboro (county seat of Highland County) as well as much of the surrounding rural area in central Highland County.

Our Educational Program:

 Hillsboro City Schools' educational programs are focused on providing multiple avenues,  academic experiences, and academic supports to help EVERY child make his/her way to success in life. Our Curriculum is carefully planned to align with the State of Ohio Content Standards and Common Core Standards. At all grade levels, we take extreme care to asses each student's academic progress and provide "Tiers of Intervention" for students who are not meeting the academic standards.  We provide academic challenges for students that are above the standard.

In addition to the traditional high school curricula, Hillsboro High School offers extensive curricular options in Advanced Placement Courses, Post-Secondary Courses, and outstanding options in Vocational Agriculture and Fine Arts.

Hillsboro, Ohio is located in the gently rolling hills of scenic Highland County, Ohio at the junction of US Highway 50 and US Highway 62.
 
With a population of  6,368 (according to the US Census Bureau, 2000), the quiet town  can be reached by travelling East from Cincinnati along US Route 50 or by travelling South-West from Columbus on US Route 62.

According to the US Census Bureau report for the 2000 Census*  the population of Hillsboro is 45.3% male and 54.7% female. The population's racial mixture is 91.8% White, 6.9% black, 1.3% Asian, and 0.7% American Indian. 41% of the 25 year and older population have achieved a high school diploma and 31.9% have education beyond high school 4.7% with Bachelor's Degrees and 6.2% with professional or graduate degrees. The mean household income is $25,998.(*http://censtats.census.gov/data/OH/1603935560.pdf)

The Hillsboro City School District includes the City of Hillsboro as well as a large portion of the surrounding rural Highland County area.
