2017 Hillsboro Graduate, Hope Tira, Earns SEDAB Scholarship

The SEDAB is pleased to announce Hope Tira of Hillsboro High School has been awarded the SEDAB $500 Scholarship in the amount of five hundred ($500).  Hope plans to enroll at University of Cincinnati in the fall and study Communication Sciences and Disorders-Speech Pathology.

Hillsboro FFA Sponsors Cornhole Tournament

 

On July 8th the Hillsboro FFA members hosted the annual corn hole tournament held at the Festival of the Bells. The members helped set up cornhole boards, and keeping track of scores for the participants. All the members did a great job helping out during the day. Lexey Hetzel said "it went smoothly and was a great experience for the new officers and members".

Hillsboro Students Participate at Maine Anjou and Chianina Jr. Nationals

Recently Hillsboro FFA members attended the Maine Anjou and Chianina Jr. Nationals in Hutchinson, Kansas. Twenty-one states attended the show, and thirty-seven members from Ohio attended. Members met other showmen in the cattle industry and exhibited their cattle. Members participated in a Fitting Contest, Public Speaking, Salesmanship, Showmanship, Livestock Judging and Quiz Bowl. HHS Lady Indians Basketball Team Travels to Ashland University

The Hillsboro Lady Indians Basketball team traveled to Ashland University for team camp earlier this week. The team also played at Williard High School where Hillsboro alumni, Joe Crawford, is the athletic director.

HHS FFA Officers Retreat

The 2017-18 Hillsboro FFA Officers took a summer retreat to Grove City. Members participated in team building exercises and also began planning for the upcoming year's activities.

About the District:

With an enrollment of nearly 2,700 students, Hillsboro City School District is the largest of the five public schools systems in rural Highland County. The district boundaries encompass the city of Hillsboro (county seat of Highland County) as well as much of the surrounding rural area in central Highland County.

Our Educational Program:

 Hillsboro City Schools' educational programs are focused on providing multiple avenues,  academic experiences, and academic supports to help EVERY child make his/her way to success in life. Our Curriculum is carefully planned to align with the State of Ohio Content Standards and Common Core Standards. At all grade levels, we take extreme care to asses each student's academic progress and provide "Tiers of Intervention" for students who are not meeting the academic standards.  We provide academic challenges for students that are above the standard.

In addition to the traditional high school curricula, Hillsboro High School offers extensive curricular options in Advanced Placement Courses, Post-Secondary Courses, and outstanding options in Vocational Agriculture and Fine Arts.

Hillsboro, Ohio is located in the gently rolling hills of scenic Highland County, Ohio at the junction of US Highway 50 and US Highway 62.
 
With a population of  6,368 (according to the US Census Bureau, 2000), the quiet town  can be reached by travelling East from Cincinnati along US Route 50 or by travelling South-West from Columbus on US Route 62.

According to the US Census Bureau report for the 2000 Census*  the population of Hillsboro is 45.3% male and 54.7% female. The population's racial mixture is 91.8% White, 6.9% black, 1.3% Asian, and 0.7% American Indian. 41% of the 25 year and older population have achieved a high school diploma and 31.9% have education beyond high school 4.7% with Bachelor's Degrees and 6.2% with professional or graduate degrees. The mean household income is $25,998.(*http://censtats.census.gov/data/OH/1603935560.pdf)
